The platform “X” (formerly Twitter) is making losses. However, Elon Musk plans to make X profitable again and wants to transform the platform into a kind of “everything service”. To this end, X is now getting a kind of YouTube clone called “X TV”. With the X-TV app, users of the platform can watch videos that are posted on X.
First beta version available
The app, which Elon Musk had been announcing for some time, has now been released in a first beta version, which he announced in a post on the platform. The “X TV” app is available for various Android TV devices (Amazon Fire TV, Google TV and LG TVs). Further integrations are to follow soon.
App is strongly based on YouTube user interface
To use the app, you need an account with X, which you log in with when you start the app. Screenshots of the app show that the app and its user interface are very similar to YouTube itself. Using the app is free – the app is financed by displaying advertising.
The official description on Google Play is as follows:
The X app is the trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV! Discover a new way to experience the world of X as we bring you unique and engaging content directly to your living room.
