(Motorsport-Total.com) – The SBK Commission is currently working on the introduction of a new entry-level class in the Superbike World Championship from 2026. This new class will replace the Supersport 300 World Championship (WorldSSP300), which has served as a kind of junior league since its introduction in 2017.

“The WorldSSP300 has fulfilled its mission of providing a sustainable and affordable platform for emerging talent to enter the World Championship,” said an official statement on Wednesday.
“Building on this success, the introduction of the new class aims to further increase the sporting and commercial relevance of the entry-level class.”
One of the main goals is to pave the way for riders to move up to the higher classes, especially the Supersport World Championship (WorldSSP). “By closing the performance gap between the entry-level and intermediate classes, we aim to create a seamless transition for riders that promotes their development and prepares them for the competitive demands of the higher classes.”
In addition, those responsible hope that there will be increased interest from manufacturers “by being able to present machines that correspond to a growing market segment.” This is because the new class will feature agile motorcycles with more powerful engines in the medium displacement class.
Details will be finalized in the coming weeks and months. The last season of WorldSSP300 will take place in 2025. This will give teams and manufacturers plenty of time to prepare for the transition to the new class.
