[Kyodo News, June 24]The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently compiled a survey report on the global “energy transition”, which pointed out that although global trends such as the expansion of environmentally friendly renewable energy are moving forward, the speed is declining significantly.
The report evaluated the energy transition of 120 countries, with Sweden ranking first, followed by Denmark and Finland. Nordic countries that use renewable energy and have high energy utilization rates rank high. Japan ranks 26th, not only lagging behind France, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom, but also lagging behind China and Brazil, which have invested heavily in renewable energy.
The WEF team used 46 indicators, including expanding renewable energy to reduce fossil fuel consumption, energy conservation progress, national policies and investments, and fair energy use, to derive the Energy Transition Index. The WEF evaluates the progress of the transition every year. (End)
