Wives of Russian soldiers recruited into the Ukraine war: “Return our husbands”

The wives of Russian soldiers who were involved in the war in Ukraine demanded the return of their husbands from Ukraine during a demonstration in Moscow.

On Saturday, February 24 (Kab 5), during the demonstration of the wives of these Russian soldiers, the police arrested at least four people, including journalists.

A video released by SOTA, an independent media outlet, shows police arresting four people, two of whom are wearing yellow vests with the words “Press” written on them.

Earlier this month, police arrested a group of about 20 journalists at a similar protest, and warned media outlets, including AFP, not to cover the protests.

Saturday’s arrest comes as two years have passed since Moscow’s military attack on Ukraine.

A women’s organization called “Pot Dumoi” called for demonstrations in Russian cities on Saturday afternoon on social media.

A video by the independent media called SOTA shows a woman wearing a yellow “press” vest saying: “Why are you detaining me?”

The video also shows a man holding flowers and being arrested by the police.

These women symbolically lay flowers on the “Unknown Soldier” statue every Saturday outside the Kremlin.

A woman named Nadezhda, who participated in the protest, told Sota Azada Media: “At the present time, even laying flowers to express one’s civil position carries special risks.”

The Russian authorities detained mainly journalists and male demonstrators during the protests, but refused to arrest the women protesters.
