After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Hizb Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, visited Kabul for the first time today, January 17 (Jadi 17).
It is the case that recently the relations between Kabul and Islamabad have been severed. Pakistan claims that the extremist Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has a safe haven in Afghanistan and from there they launch their attacks on Pakistan.
Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said last week that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s trip has nothing to do with this ministry, this Pakistani politician said in an interview with Radio Mashaal yesterday that he has spoken with government officials about his trip.
Aqeel Yousafzai, a political analyst and journalist, told Voice of America that Maulana Fazlur Rahman will visit Kabul after his visit, and that Deputy Minister of Defense of the Taliban and Mullah Shirin Akhund, Governor of Kandahar, will meet with Pakistani officials on January 5th.
And he said: “After Mullah Shirin Akhund met with Jalil Abbas Jilani, Acting Foreign Ministry of Pakistan, the government of Pakistan talked about Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s trip.”
Yousafzai added that based on the available information, the leader of Hizb Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan will talk to Taliban officials in Kabul about two main issues; Reducing tensions between Kabul, Islamabad and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
But Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban government, had previously said that the purpose of inviting this spiritual Pakistani is to prevent negative propaganda against the Taliban in Pakistan and to convey the truth to the people of Pakistan.
Fakhr Kakakhil, Pakistani writer and journalist, told Voice of America that the purpose of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s trip is to mediate between two sides.
He added: “Currently, there are security tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, if they blame each other, and to facilitate the atmosphere to find a solution and in this way to put pressure on the armed group TTP and create mediation with them (Taliban Pakistan) ) as well.”
Kakakhil added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is the leader of a great school of Deobandi style and Hazar Taliban militants have also graduated from this school. He said: “In my opinion, as a scholar of the Deoband school, Maulana Fazlur Rahman is influential on the Taliban.”
The Pakistan Security Research and Studies Center has published a report saying that in the year 2023, nearly 1,000 soldiers and civilians have been killed in extremist attacks across the country.
According to this report, which was published on Sunday, December 31 (10th), two states – Khyber-Pashtun and Balochistan – witnessed the most terrorist attacks and casualties.
According to the report, 2023 has been the deadliest year for the police and army of Pakistan in the past decade, in which nearly 500 people from the army and police forces of Pakistan have been killed.
