Julian Assange, founder of the whistleblower website WikiLeaks, has agreed to a plea deal with the US government and been released.

According to WikiLeaks, Assange, who was charged in the United States with leaking classified information and was imprisoned in the United Kingdom, was released from a London detention center on the 24th and left the UK.

According to the Associated Press and other sources, Assange has agreed to a plea deal with the US Department of Justice and is scheduled to appear in federal court on the US territory of Saipan on the 26th.

Assange avoided prison in exchange for pleading guilty and is expected to soon return to his native Australia.
