Who is Dinshaw Pardiwala : Wednesday was a disappointing day for all Indian sports lovers and wrestlers. Vinesh Phogat, who crashed into the final, was disqualified at the last minute. Being overweight disqualified her from this final and, alternatively, from the 2024 Olympics. There was a firm belief that she would win the gold medal this year. Vinesh’s weight was 49.90 kg during the semi-final held on Tuesday. So she could participate in this match. On this day, she played three consecutive bouts and confirmed her place in the final round. She became the first woman to reach the finals. But, after winning the semi-final, her weight increased by 52.7 kg. This created a sensation in the Indian wrestling camp. An entire army was mobilized to reduce her weight immediately. Famous doctor Dinshaw Pardiwala was also in this army. They tried their best to reduce her weight.

Vinesh could not sleep the night before the finals. The chef de mission of the Indian team, Gagan Narang, Dinshaw Pardiwala, Vinesh’s husband, physiotherapists, medical staff and IOA officials made efforts to reduce her weight. But to no avail.

Pardiwala is a BCCI panellist doctor. Dr. Rishabh Pant, wicket keeper of the Indian cricket team. Dinshaw Pardiwala recently underwent surgery. He has also worked with renowned players like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. He is a sports orthopedic surgeon with over 22 years of experience. Dr. Pardiwala is the Director of Arthroscopy and Shoulder Services at Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai and was awarded the ISAKOS John Joyce Award in 2009 for his significant contribution to arthroscopic surgery.
Vinesh on Tuesday became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the finals in the Olympics. But this success story remained incomplete. Vinesh came last among the contestants due to disqualification. She had to give up not a gold or a silver, but a bronze medal.
