Among Tom Hanks’ tear-jerking movies, this one will have you in tears from the very beginning. It’s a love story that has been much talked about since his co-starring with Meg Ryan.
Tom Hanks plays the role of Sam, who talks about the sadness of losing his wife on a radio advice show. The scene begins with a son, worried about his father who is still grieving, calling the radio show and requesting that “Dad get a new wife.” His bravery really grabs your heart.
Then, Sam, who answered the phone in place of his son, talks to the radio personality about his late wife, and when he says, “My wife and I were destined to be together,” the tears flow (15 minutes into the show). Then, when he thinks of his late wife and murmurs, “I miss you so much it hurts,” tears begin to flow (29 minutes into the show).
Every word of his love moved not only the audience but also the female listeners in the film to tears. Among them, reporter Annie, played by Meg Ryan, was deeply moved and decided to go and meet him.
The final scene (1 hour 33 minutes) is the scene where Sam and Annie, who live in Chicago and Seattle, meet at the Empire State Building in New York despite their repeated disagreements. It’s so dramatic that you can’t help but cry.
