A talk event by Ryukyu history expert, Kakazu Ninzen, who writes the serial “Sakigake! Rekishi Otoko Juku” in the children’s newspaper “Wallaby”, was held at Kin Bunkado, a bookstore in Kin Town, Okinawa Prefecture, on the 7th. The event was packed with 30 people who learned about the history of the Ryukyus, with a focus on Kin Town.

The event was held to celebrate the release of the fourth volume of the book. Mr. Kazu explained that the sutra mound was where the priest Nisshu, who was saved after being washed ashore in Kin Town and founded the Kin Kannon Temple, exorcised a monster in Urasoe, and that tea in the Ryukyu Islands originated in Kin Town.

He explained that the phrase “Imikuji piman (meaningless)” (meaningless) was born after the war, originating from a monument erected by the monk Nisshu at Matsukawa in Naha. When he said, “Imikuji piman also originated in Kin Town,” a big round of applause erupted.

Ms. Ai Asato (54) from Nago City, an elementary school teacher who heard Mr. Kasu’s talk for the first time, said, “Even though I live in Okinawa, there were many things I didn’t know. I would like to put the book in the classroom so that children will become interested in it.”

Kin Bunkado’s president, Masanori Nijima, is a fan of Kazu and said, “I’m glad so many people have come to our small store.”

A talk event with Kasu will be held at Junkudo Naha Bookstore from 2:00 pm on the 15th, and at Times Building in Kumoji, Naha City from 3:00 pm on October 6th.
