How to play a round without using irons
For example, at driving ranges and during lessons, the club used for basic practice is overwhelmingly the No. 7 iron. When I first started playing golf, I always started with practice swings and practice with the No. 7 iron.
It has been about 10 years since then that my familiar No. 7 iron suddenly started to perform poorly, and I could barely hit the No. 8 or No. 9 iron either.
It all started with a shank. As he repeatedly shanks, he developed a strong sense of discomfort towards the iron, and the iron yips became a traumatic condition.
The average distance a woman can hit with a 7 iron is about 90-100 yards, with an 8 iron about 80-90 yards, and with a 9 iron about 60-70 yards.
So, I have pretty much put these three clubs away for about 10 years now…
So how did I get through these distances? I just got through with UT control shots and PW full shots. Even if I failed or couldn’t reach the mark, I just got through.
So when I found a 6UT with a 30-degree loft, I was ecstatic.

Therefore, the caddy was surprised when I took away my UT on a 90-yard par 3, and when the caddy handed me my iron with 80 yards left, I smiled and refused, instead taking out my UT and PW from my bag myself.
My golfing buddies have even asked me if I’m crazy when it comes to my club selection.
In any case, it is no exaggeration to say that he focused his energy on how to play the round without using irons.
I managed to get by like that, and my best score at the time was 88, so I think I did my best.
