Regarding IPv6 conversion on networks and services of State agencies, the goal for 2024 is for 90% – 100% of ministries, branches and localities to convert to IPv6 for electronic information portals and public service portals.
The 2024 target for telecommunications networks and services (Viettel, VNPT, FPT Telecom, MobiFone) is 95% of broadband telecommunications subscribers (FTTH) and mobile subscribers operating with IPv6. At the same time, the IPv6 usage rate across the entire enterprise network reaches 80% or more.
Other businesses including: Internet service providers (ISPs), mobile services, data centers (IDCs), cloud services, digital content and internet address members are required to deploy IPv6 for their networks and services with a usage rate of 50% this year.
To achieve the set goals, the Ministry of Information and Communications has specifically assigned the unit to preside over and coordinate with each group of tasks, requirements on the work to be done and the results and deadline for completion. It is expected that the Vietnam Internet Center will organize a conference on IPv6 transition in 2024. In addition, there are 4 other groups of tasks that need to be focused on in 2024: IPv6 transition for Vietnam’s internet network; IPv6 for government agencies (IPv6 For Gov); work program, monitoring, supporting IPv6 transition; training; implementing orientation and propaganda work on IPv6.
As the new generation of internet addresses, IPv6 has an almost unlimited address space. The transition to IPv6 is an essential requirement to ensure address resources for internet development, internet of things, industrial internet with new services such as internet of things, cloud computing, 5G/6G network…
According to data from the Ministry of Information and Communications, by the end of December 2023, the IPv6 usage rate on Vietnam’s internet network reached 59%, ranking 2nd in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) and 9th in the world. 100% of the country’s important internet infrastructure operates with IPv6. Telecommunications operators are actively implementing IPv6 conversion, with 76.48 million broadband internet subscribers using IPv6 by the end of 2023, including both fixed and mobile broadband subscribers.
For state agencies, by the end of 2023, 82/85 ministries, branches, and localities had issued IPv6 conversion plans; 76 ministries, branches, provinces, and cities had successfully converted electronic information portals and public service portals to use IPv6 addresses.
