Regarding the killing of Hamas leader Haniyeh, US National Security Advisor Kirby said, “I do not believe an escalation of the conflict is inevitable.”

Advisor to the President Kirby:
We do not believe that an escalation of the conflict is inevitable, and there are no signs that it is imminent.

On July 31, Kirby said, “The United States continues to work toward a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.”

He then explained, “Our job is to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself, as well as to prevent further suffering for the people of Gaza and to manage risks in the region.”

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Patel said, “Pursuing a diplomatic solution is our priority,” but denied any involvement in Haniya’s killing.
