[Ta Kung Pao News]According to the Washington Post: Three sources revealed on the 21st that Andrew Miller, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli-Palestinian Affairs at the U.S. State Department, has resigned. The report said that although Miller’s official reason for resigning was family reasons, people familiar with the matter revealed that Miller’s real reason for resigning was dissatisfaction with the Biden administration’s continued connivance and support for Israel’s attack on Gaza.
Previously, several US officials resigned due to dissatisfaction with the way the US government handled this round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Miller is the highest-ranking official in charge of the Palestinian-Israeli issue to resign so far.
Miller told his colleagues when he resigned that the ongoing conflict in Gaza showed no sign of ending, which had caused him to have little time to spend with his family in the past eight months. Miller said that if it were not for his family responsibilities, he could have stayed in his position even if he disagreed with some of the government’s decisions.
Miller previously served as a senior policy adviser to the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. During the Obama administration, he served as the director of Egypt and Israel military issues on the White House National Security Council.
On May 15, Kaul, special assistant to the director of the U.S. Department of the Interior, announced her resignation in protest of the U.S.’s continued support for Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip. She is the first Jewish government official appointed by the Biden administration to resign due to dissatisfaction with U.S. policy toward Israel.
On April 25, Lalit, the Arabic spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, announced her resignation, saying she had to do so in order to speak the truth freely.
