Due to the unprecedented rain in the United Arab Emirates, the roads and the Dubai International Airport were flooded, schools and offices were closed.
According to the report of “Wakalt Anba Al-Amart” news agency, the rain that started on Monday has not been seen since 1949.
The rain became more intense at 9 am local time on Tuesday and hail has fallen in some areas.
By Tuesday, the amount of rain reached 142 mm, while the average annual rainfall in this desert country is only 95 mm.
Flights have been suspended due to water spilling on the roads in and around Dubai International Airport.
The rainwater has submerged some cars and some houses and the country’s authorities have not released information about the financial and personal losses.
Rain is not common in this Arabian Peninsula country and it only rains a little in the winter months. Due to the lack of an underground drainage system, rainfall causes flooding.
At the same time, it has rained in Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and 18 people have died due to heavy rains in neighboring Oman in recent days.
