UN Human Rights Council Working Group Chair Calls for “Appropriate Relief” for Former Johnny’s Sexual Assault Issue

The chair of the working group that reported the results of its investigation into sexual assault by the former Johnny & Associates Entertainment to the United Nations Human Rights Council emphasized in an interview with JNN that “we hope that appropriate relief is provided to the victims.”

At a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Switzerland on the 26th, a working group that investigated human rights violations in Japan reported its findings. The report stated that, regarding the sexual assault issue by Johnny Kitagawa, “the relief measures for hundreds of former entertainers who were sexually assaulted are insufficient,” and pointed out the need for stronger public and private efforts.

The victim, former Johnny’s Jr. member Akira Nihon, also attended the meeting. In a video message, he made the following appeal:

Former Johnny’s Jr. member, Akira Nihon
“Victims of sexual assault must no longer be ignored, harassed and silenced.”

Nihonki-san also participated in a related event afterwards with the chairs of the working group. After the event, the chair of the working group said:

Robert McCorquodale, Chair of the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights
“Raising this issue is extremely difficult and takes courage. I hope they receive appropriate redress for what they have been through. There needs to be some regulation to prevent this from happening again.”

And also Nihongi-san.

Former Johnny’s Jr. member, Akira Nihon
“I want to raise awareness among people that sexual exploitation of children is a violation of their human rights.”

Nihongi says she will continue to campaign for the eradication of sexual abuse of children.
