Ukrainian Drone Strike Hits Russia’s Saratov Building, Many Injured

UKRAINE – Drone attacks Ukraine at night in the Saratov region, Russia south damaged several buildings apartment high and injured many people. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense forces intercepted nine drones in the Saratov region overnight.

“Air defense systems shot down a drone this morning,” Saratov region Governor Roman Busargin wrote on Telegram early Monday (8/26/2024).

“Debris fell on residential buildings in Saratov and Engels,” he continued.

The cities of Saratov and Engels lie along the Volga River, about 730 kilometers (454 miles) southeast of Moscow. Flights at the regional airport north of the capital were briefly curtailed in the morning due to the attack.

Busargin shared a photo of the damaged Volga Sky apartment complex, which overlooks the bridge connecting Saratov to Engels across the river. It was the tallest building in the city.

The governor said one woman was hospitalized in serious condition, with doctors fighting for her life. Other injured residents on the Volga Sky were treated at the scene, although the total number of injured was not given.
