According to AFP: The Ukrainian Peace Summit ended on the 16th. Dozens of participating countries unanimously agreed in the final communiqué of the summit that the Kiev authorities should hold talks with Russia to end the war, while supporting the maintenance of Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. However, many countries such as India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates did not appear on the list of countries supporting the joint communiqué.

The Ukrainian Peace Summit was held on the shores of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, from the 15th to the 16th. The host country Switzerland had previously invited more than 160 countries around the world, but only more than 90 countries finally attended the meeting, and Russia was not invited. The final communiqué of the summit stated: “We believe that peace can only be achieved through the participation and dialogue of all parties.” The content of the communiqué also reiterated the commitment to “the territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine.” The final communiqué also urged Russia and Ukraine to “fully exchange” prisoners of war and send back all Ukrainian children who were “deported and illegally migrated.”

However, the host Swiss government said on the 16th that participating countries including Saudi Arabia, India, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates gave up signing the final version of the joint communiqué. Brazil was listed as an “observer” on the list of participants and also did not sign the final joint communiqué.

The working groups at the summit also reportedly discussed global food security and nuclear security. The communiqué stated that “food security must not be weaponized in any form” and stressed that access to ports on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is “critical” to global food supply. Countries also called for the return of control of Ukraine’s Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to the Kiev authorities.
