At least six ministerial officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stepanishina, have resigned in Ukraine, Reuters and other news agencies reported on the 3rd (local time).
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his speech that evening that “this fall will be a very important time for Ukraine,” and that “our state institutions must be set up to achieve the results we want.” He added that “for this, we must strengthen the government sector and prepare for it by making changes in the cabinet.”
The people who resigned along with Deputy Prime Minister Stepanishina this time are Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Integration of the Provisionally Occupied Territories Irina Bereshtsk, Minister of Strategic Industry Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska, Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strylets, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. The head of the National Property Fund Vitaliy Koval also resigned. President Zelensky also made some personnel changes in the presidential office, dismissing Deputy Chief of Staff Rostislav Shurma.
“There will be a major reshuffle, with more than half of the ministers changing,” David Aracamia, a member of the ruling People’s Party, said in a statement on Telegram. “Today the resignations will be announced, and tomorrow we will have new appointments.” Stephanisina, who stepped down this time, was in charge of EU and NATO accession issues, but she could be appointed to a new position that will include legal administration, an anonymous official said.
“I will continue to work in the government on defense issues, but in a different role,” said Kamyshin, the outgoing Minister of Strategic Industries, on social media.
