Dallas ∙ Former Texas lawmaker Scott Turner (52) has been nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to leading the department, he will also be the adviser to the president on housing-related issues.
Turner is the first Texan and the most senior black official to join Trump’s second administration. Turner was executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council under the first Trump administration.
Turner is a former National Football League (NFL) player who represented Frisco in the Texas House from 2013 to 2017. In 1995, he played for Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos. Booted for 9 seasons since 1995. Scott Turner currently serves as associate pastor of Plano megachurch Prestonwood Baptist Church and is the founder and president of the Community Engagement and Opportunity Council.
