Triple Talaq to Wife: A Muslim woman in Uttar Pradesh has claimed that her husband gave her triple talaq because she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The woman claimed that her husband divorced her after praising both the leaders for the development in Ayodhya. Also, after filing a complaint with the police that the in-laws were beating and torturing her, the police filed an FIR against the husband and his family.

In her complaint, the victim said that her mother-in-law and husband beat her badly. The woman has also alleged that her husband tried to strangle her. Talking to PTI news agency, the victim said that I am going to stay in Baharich, Uttar Pradesh. On 13 December 2023, I was married to Isma Arshad from Ayodhya. My father had spent more on my wedding than what my in-laws expected.

After getting married and moving to Ayodhya, I really liked the roads, beautification, Ayodhya Dham and other developmental works there. Because of this, I praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in front of my husband. The angry husband sent me home. Also poured hot dal on my body while fighting with me. After this quarrel, the victim’s relatives returned to Ayodhya again as her in-laws intervened.

Meanwhile, after the arrival of the in-laws, the husband gave triple talaq to the wife using abusive language about the above mentioned leaders. The victim woman also claimed that she was beaten up by her in-laws on the day the divorce took place. Following the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case against eight people. A case has been registered under various sections of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights in Marriage) Act including assault, intimidation, harassment for dowry and Muslim Women (Protection of Rights in Marriage).

Central Government Act Against Triple Talaq

In 2017, the Supreme Court declared the practice of triple talaq unconstitutional. Subsequently, the ‘Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019’ was passed in July 2019. After this, some Muslim organizations rushed to the Supreme Court and demanded the cancellation of this law. But saying that the practice of triple talaq is harmful to the institution of marriage, the central government upheld the ‘Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019’ in the Supreme Court.
