New rice from Toyama Prefecture’s Tofufu Tomi rice will soon be available in stores. At JA Zen-Noh Toyama in Toyama City, 38.88 tons of new rice from the prefecture’s “Fufufu” rice, which has been around for seven years, was loaded into three trucks.
The ceremony was attended by Toyama Prefecture Governor Hachiro Nitta and others, who celebrated the shipment of “Fufufu” with a ribbon cutting.
According to the Zen-Noh Toyama Prefectural Headquarters, due to the intense heat, the ratio of first-grade rice for Koshihikari plummeted last year, so this year the planted area of “Fufu Tomomi”, which has heat-resistant properties, has been reduced by about 1% from last year. .We increased the area five times to approximately 2,500 hectares.
It has been 7 years since their debut, and as of the 27th of this month, the ratio of first-class rice is 98%, which means they are doing well.
Zennoh Toyama Prefecture Headquarters Steering Committee Chairman Kiyoshi Tsukamoto
“It’s a little hot every year, but (this year) it rained in the evening, so I think it was a good thing that we didn’t run out of water. I hope everyone will come again.”
Sales of Fufufu will begin on October 4th at supermarkets in Toyama Prefecture, and from early next month outside the prefecture.
