[January 10, AFP]Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League announced on the 9th that Timo Werner, who plays for RB Leipzig in Germany’s Bundesliga, will be terminated for the season. He was acquired through a rental transfer.

It will be Werner’s return to the Premier League after playing for Chelsea from 2020 to 2022. He contributed to Chelsea’s victory in the European Champions League (UEFA Champions League 2020-21), but he did not shine during his time with the club, scoring 23 goals in a total of 89 appearances. Even after his return to Leipzig, he was far from successful, scoring just two goals in 14 games this season and falling down the pecking order under coach Marco Rose.

Tottenham will be missing South Korean representative Son Heung-min, who is leaving the team to participate in the 18th Asian Cup (2023 AFC Asian Cup), as well as Ivan Perisic and Manor Salomon due to injuries. With Manor Solomon and James Maddison out, there was an urgent need to strengthen the attacking team.

Werner could make his debut against Manchester United on Saturday.

The team is currently in 5th place, 6 points behind leaders Liverpool and just 1 point behind 4th place, and will face champions Manchester City in the fourth round of the English FA Cup (FA Cup 2023-24) later this month. We also have a match against (Manchester City) coming up. (c)AFP
