Tokyo City University (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, President: Tomoya Nojo) Research Institute (Director: Kenichiro Nonaka) will hold the 225th Research Institute Seminar on Saturday, November 16th. This time, the theme was “The Frontiers of Semiconductors – From MEMS to nanodevices, memory, heat, light, spin, quantum, and germanium” and was jointly sponsored by the Nanoelectronics Research Center and the Micro-Nano Systems Laboratory. In addition to special lectures by professors from the institute, lectures will be given by leading experts who are deeply involved in research and development in each field and are leading the way in each field. No advance application required, participation fee free.

In 2004, Tokyo City University established a comprehensive research institute to realize the university’s philosophy of “human resource development and academic research to bring about sustainable social development.” By promoting cutting-edge research at various “research centers,” we aim to create innovations with a view to social implementation.

Since its founding at the Research Institute in 2004, the Nanoelectronics Research Center has been conducting research on silicon-based semiconductors based in a clean room. In 2022, a new clean room will be opened in a new building on the Setagaya campus, and all equipment will be relocated. Currently, the Nanoelectronics Research Center and the Micro-Nano Systems Laboratory are deepening their cooperation with each other, expanding their research themes with a focus on the new clean room, and actively pursuing cutting-edge research and development.

This seminar will feature Professor Kohei Hamaya of the Spintronics Academic Collaborative Research and Education Center attached to the Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, who is deeply involved in the semiconductor field, which is the research field of both parties, and who is playing an active role in leading each field. Professor Masahiro Nomura of the Institute of Technology, Mr. Masumi Saito, Director of the Device Core Technology Research and Development Department, Core Technology Research and Development Center, Core Technology Research Center, KIOXIA Corporation, and Assistant Professor Ke Yunan of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering, Chiba University, will be invited to give lectures. Additionally, from Tokyo City University, Special Professor Hiroyuki Fujita (Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo), Director of the Micro-Nano Systems Laboratory, and Lecturer Shingo Katsumoto (Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo) of the Nanoelectronics Research Center will be on stage to give special lectures. The outline is as follows.
