Mumbai: The country’s largest port will be set up at Pagarhan in Palghar district. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to widen the Samriddhi Highway to reach the Port of Pradhan.
MSRDC is going to build a 90 km highway from Igatpuri – Charoti. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct approximately 35 km of highway from Charoti to Pagaran Port. Accordingly, the proposal for the Igatpuri to Charoti expressway will soon be sent to the state government for approval. With this approximately 125 km long expressway, Nagpur-Pargan port can be traveled directly in just a few hours.
The state’s two major ports, JNPT and Mumbai, are running out of container handling capacity. Therefore, a decision has been taken to build a new port. Under the Sagarmala initiative, the world’s fifth largest port will be set up at Pagarhan in Dahanu taluk. After the construction of this port, MSRDC has started working to speed up the transportation of cargo or other types of traffic from places like Vidarbha, Marathwada etc. The senior officials of MSRDC informed that the concept of expansion of Samriddhi Highway came from that. Officials also said that according to this expansion, an expressway will be constructed between Igatpuri and Pagaran Bandar, Palghar. MSRDC Managing Director Anil Kumar Gaikwad confirmed this.

A route of approximately 125 km
The Igatpuri – Pagaran Bandar Expressway will be approximately 125 km long. MSRDC will construct a 90 km long highway from Igatpuri Interchange on Nagpur-Mumbai Samriddhi Highway to Charoti Naka on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. An estimated expenditure of Rs.9 thousand crores is expected for this. The proposal for this 90 km long highway is being prepared by MSRDC. The official also said that the proposal of Igatpuri-Charoti highway will be sent to the state government for approval in the next few days.
MSRDC informed that NHI is responsible for taking the expressway to Pradhan port after Samriddhi Highway reaches Charoti. The Charoti-Pardan Bandar Expressway will be approximately 35 km long. The expansion of the port is a very ambitious project of the central and state governments. Therefore, the government is trying to connect the port to as many districts as possible in the state. The idea of this expansion has come from that.
