[Ta Kung Pao]According to Reuters: The U.S. court made public the complaint submitted by TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance on the 20th, showing that the Biden administration’s order to “ban TikTok if not sold” is unconstitutional and can be described as “political incitement.”
ByteDance and TikTok believe that divesting TikTok’s U.S. business is not feasible from a technical, legal and commercial perspective. The bill violates the U.S. tradition of maintaining an open Internet and sets a bad precedent targeting a single media outlet.
ByteDance disclosed that it had submitted more than 100 pages of suggestions to Washington on addressing national security concerns, but the other party has refused to engage in a dialogue intended to resolve the problem since 2022, proving that Washington’s goal is to force TikTok to close its U.S. business rather than really wanting to resolve the problem.
The complaint pointed out that the Trump administration and the state of Montana had imposed bans on TikTok, but were later rejected by the courts on the grounds that the government had exceeded its authority.
As the US presidential election campaign begins, former President Trump and current President Biden are trying to use TikTok to win over young voters. Trump joined TikTok on June 1, and his number of fans quickly exceeded 6 million. He said last week that he would “absolutely not” ban TikTok.
