Dubai, a city known for its grandeur and magnificent projects around the world, is once again in the headlines with a new and unique initiative. A mall is being built here, which will not only be environmentally friendly but the income generated from it will be used to build mosques in the emirate. This will not be an ordinary shopping center, but a place that will play an important role in community and religious support. The facilities in this mall will be no less than a paradise.

Spread over an area of 165,000 square feet in Al Khawaneej, the mall, a project of Dubai-based Endowments and Minors Affairs Trust Foundation (Awqaf), will have facilities such as 29 shops, a large shopping centre, medical centre, restaurants, and fitness centre. Other service amenities include roads, parks, parking lots, and two prayer rooms for men and women. The mall is being constructed in accordance with international green building standards, using environmentally friendly materials and construction techniques. Energy production, management and recycling using solar and renewable energy sources will also be a feature of the mall.

According to the Khaleej Times report, the estimated cost of building the mall is 40 million dirhams, which is equivalent to about Rs 91 crore 19 lakh in Indian currency. After the completion of this mall, a large part of its earnings will be used to build 50 mosques that do not receive enough donations. Every year, about 8 million dirhams, i.e. about Rs 18 crore, will be spent from the mall to meet the needs of these mosques.

The construction of the mall under this project is part of Dubai’s ‘Mosque Endowment’ campaign, which supports the Dubai Mosque Endowment Fund. Ali Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of Awqaf Dubai, and his team recently visited the mall’s construction site and reviewed the progress. He has appealed to government and private entities, organisations and individuals to contribute to this campaign.
