The Hokuriku Electric Power Company’s general shareholders’ meeting was held on the 26th, and proposals calling for the decommissioning of the Shika Nuclear Power Plant were submitted by shareholders seeking to phase out nuclear power, but all were rejected.
A total of 191 shareholders attended the general shareholders’ meeting, which was held at Hokuriku Electric Power’s headquarters in Toyama City.
In response to the damage caused to some of the equipment at the Shika Nuclear Power Plant in the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year’s Day, anti-nuclear shareholders have argued that “operating the plant on the Noto Peninsula, which is surrounded by many active faults, is dangerous, and the Shika Nuclear Power Plant should not be restarted and should be decommissioned immediately.”
In response, Hokuriku Electric Power replied, “Although some facilities were damaged by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, there are no problems with important safety equipment, such as fuel cooling equipment, and there is no need to worry in the future.”
All six proposals submitted by anti-nuclear shareholders calling for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and greater transparency in management were rejected.
A shareholder who attended the event said, “We were just saying it was safe, but people in the surrounding local governments were also expressing their concerns.”
A shareholder who attended the meeting said, “I came from the disaster area (Shika Town) so I was very interested, and I think the answers were given carefully.”
