The average length of service for all female public sector workers was 10 years, which was 4.1 years shorter than that of male workers. The average annual salary per woman was only 77.3% of that of men.
On the 6th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced the results of a survey on the gender wage and length of service gap of employees of public companies and public institutions that contained such information. This is the result of analyzing the business reports submitted by 2,647 companies to the Electronic Disclosure System (DART) last year and the information of 339 public institutions posted on the Public Institution Management Information Disclosure System (ALIO).
According to the survey results, the gender wage and length of service gap in companies and public institutions has slightly narrowed compared to the previous year. However, the gender wage gap is still large at 20%, which is larger than the OECD member country average of 12.1% (as of 2021). In particular, the length of service gap between men and women in public institutions last year was 4.1 years, which was larger than the 2.8-year gap in private companies. The average annual salary of female workers in public institutions was 60.74 million won, which was 17.75 million won lower than the average of 78.49 million won per man.
The average annual salary of female workers working in public companies was 72.59 million won, which was 25.98 million won less than the average of 98.57 million won per male worker. The average length of service for all male workers was 11.9 years, but for female workers it was only 9.1 years.
