The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on Tuesday, February 6th (17th), expressed concern about the harassment of members of Imran Khan’s party, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Liz Trussell, the spokesperson of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, during a press conference called on the Pakistani authorities to guarantee free and fair elections in that country.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan has repeatedly complained about the harassment of members of his party and said that they cannot even hold election rallies like the ruling party and its candidate, Nawaz Sharif.

But Pakistani authorities have denied these accusations.

Imran Khan was sentenced to 34 years in prison in four different cases, so he cannot participate in the elections. Supporters of Hizb have claimed that Khan has been punished for his rhetoric against the powerful army.

Terasil said that the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner is monitoring similar harassment, arrests and long-term imprisonment of the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and their supporters.

He added that all parties in Pakistan should compete fairly.

Meanwhile, Gohar Ijaz, the Minister of Interior of Pakistan, said that despite the increase in attacks by extremists, all arrangements to ensure free and fair elections have been taken and more forces will be sent to sensitive areas.

Election campaigns will end at midnight on Tuesday, but candidates can continue to campaign house to house to gain public support.

Pakistan has invited international observers to monitor the elections, but a number of analysts say that if there is fraud before the election, the credibility of the elections is at risk.

Amnesty International and other human rights groups have asked the Pakistani authorities to ensure that access to the Internet and other communication platforms will not be disrupted during the elections.

Earlier, the Interior Minister of Pakistan said that during the elections on Thursday, if the local authorities want, the Internet will be disrupted.

In the absence of Imran Khan, the only plaintiff in the presidency is Nawaz Sharif, a person who has reached the presidency three times in the past has been acquitted of his past convictions.
