On Friday, April 5, the United Nations Human Rights Council is considering a draft resolution calling for an arms embargo on Israel.
The text of the resolution condemned the “use of explosive weapons with the power of mass destruction” by the Israeli military in the crowded areas of Gaza, and also called Israel “legal responsibilities to prevent genocide”.
Pakistan will represent the 55 member Organization of Islamic Cooperation and has presented this resolution to the United Nations Human Rights Council. Albania, which is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, did not support this resolution.
Bolivia, Cuba and the Palestine Mission at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva have also supported the draft eight-page resolution.
The draft resolution called on Israel to immediately stop the occupation of Palestinian lands, as well as the “illegal siege” of Gaza and all other “collective punishments” against the Palestinians.
In this document, the countries of the world are asked to stop the sale and transfer of weapons, ammunition and military equipment to Israel because of the fear of “possible genocide in Gaza”.
The draft resolution condemns the “starvation of civilians under the name of war” by the Israeli military.
In addition to the request for an immediate ceasefire, this document said that if Israel’s actions in Gaza were considered “national cleansing”, the countries should prevent the forced transfer of Palestinians living in Gaza.
The United Nations Human Rights Council has 47 members, of which 18 support the draft resolution to impose an arms embargo on Israel.
For the approval of this resolution, 24 unanimous votes will be required, but if the members of this council refuse to vote, the possibility of approving the resolution with fewer votes is also available.
Israeli officials have always accused the United Nations Human Rights Council of being biased against Israel.
The bloodiest war between Hamas and Israel began after Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7th last year. According to Israeli officials, 1160 people, mostly civilians, were killed and more or less 240 people were taken hostage.
In response to this attack, Israel has launched air and ground attacks on Gaza since then and has completely surrounded the barricade. The Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, said that 33 thousand Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed so far as a result of Israeli attacks.
