“Please don’t forget Ukraine, when there are so many other places in the world that demand our attention,” said Martin Griffiths, UN humanitarian coordinator, when announcing the plan in Geneva.
Referring to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Griffiths said that in 2024, “the demand for funding will increase even more” to deliver humanitarian aid.
He added that Ukrainians “need your help, they need your funding… Humanitarian aid has become a basic necessity of life without which people may lose their lives.”
Russia has stepped up its airstrikes on Ukraine in recent weeks, and by restructuring its economy and strengthening its weapons, Moscow is seen as preparing for a long war.
Griffiths said: “The last month has been a month of great horror for the people of Ukraine, the war has intensified and is going as fast and hard as ever… This plan is based on the assumption that the war will probably continue until the end of 2024. have.”
