The United Nations condemned the ‘killing’ of dozens of people in Gaza; Turkey calls it a crime against humanity

The attack by Israeli soldiers on the Palestinians receiving aid in Gaza on Thursday has been condemned and the United Nations has requested an investigation.

Stephen Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, says that Anthony Guterres has condemned the bloody attack on aid recipients in Gaza, in which dozens of people were killed, according to Hamas officials.

Thousands of Palestinians were standing in line to receive aid on Thursday, February 29 (10th) when they were attacked and shot by Israeli soldiers.

An Israeli source said that the forces thought the crowd “would pose a threat” and therefore opened fire on them. A spokesman for Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that some people were hit by aid trucks.

Dujarric, the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General, said that this issue should be “investigated”. He said: “We don’t know exactly what happened, if people were killed due to the shooting of the Israeli army, or if they were trampled or run over by trucks, all of them are acts of violence due to the war.”

US President Joe Biden has said that US officials are trying to evaluate different information to find out how this incident happened.

A spokeswoman for the White House, Olivia Dalton, described the number of dead as very worrying. She told reporters: “It is necessary to investigate this incident.” Olivia added that this incident shows how important it is to extend aid to Gaza.

Turkey once again accused Israel of “another crime against humanity”. The Turkish Foreign Ministry said: “Israel has added another crime to its crimes against humanity.” The ministry has said that Israel has deliberately targeted aid recipients and wants to “destroy the Palestinians”.

France has condemned Israel’s “unjustifiable” attack. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said: “The shooting by Israeli soldiers on civilians who were trying to get food is not justified.”

The ministry says that this “tragedy” is happening at a time when the number of Palestinians dying due to hunger is increasing.

Spain’s foreign ministry said the killing of dozens of aid recipients was “unacceptable”. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albaris wrote on his X account that the manner and nature of this incident is unacceptable and the death of dozens of Palestinians waiting to receive food shows the need for a ceasefire.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza says that Israel attacked people who were standing in queues to receive aid and 104 people were killed.

According to the ministry, the attack took place at a crossroads in Gaza City and hundreds of other people were injured.

At the same time, the Israeli army has said that it has conducted a series of operations in Gaza and Khan Yunis.

In Gaza, the Ministry of Health under the authority of Hamas says that the number of people killed in Israel’s attacks so far has exceeded 30,000 and more than 70,000 have been injured, the majority of whom are women and children.

The head of the United Nations human rights department, Valker Turk, said that both Israel and Hamas have committed war crimes in this war. Turk has said that the time for “peace, investigation and accountability” has come.

He also warned about the possible attack of Israel in Rafah. 1.5 million Palestinians live in Rafah and most of them fled from other areas due to the war.

Turk said that the Rafah operation is turning the nightmare of the people of Gaza into a horrible one.

At the same time, the United Nations has said that donors and recipients of aid in Gaza have faced new challenges.
