The problem on the AAE-1 international undersea fiber optic cable line has been resolved

Specifically, the international partner has completed the repair of the incident that occurred on September 27, 2023 on the Asia Africa Europe 1 (AAE-1) international undersea fiber optic cable. Currently, the internet connection on this cable line has returned to stable operation. As one of the five undersea fiber optic cable lines that account for the majority of internet connection capacity from Vietnam to the world, AAE-1 plays a role in improving the quality of connections towards Europe and the Middle East as well as providing additional capacity. and backup to connections to Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.

Previously, on November 6, 2023, the incident on the cable branch near the Vung Tau landing station (Vietnam) of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) international undersea fiber optic cable line was repaired and resolved. The AAG submarine cable line was put into operation in November 2009. With a total length of more than 20,000 km, this cable directly connects Southeast Asia with the United States.

Thus, at present, all 5 undersea fiber optic cable lines (including AAG, APG, AAE-1, SMW3 and IA) that internet network operators in Vietnam use and exploit to provide services to users are all operating. operates normally.

According to estimates, the total internet capacity of Vietnam going internationally through these 5 cable lines is about 18 Tbps, with an efficiency of about 65%. When one route has a problem, the efficiency of the remaining routes is pushed up to 90%. At this time, the quality of internet service is not affected. However, when two undersea cable lines have problems at the same time, the efficiency of the remaining undersea cable lines will be pushed up to 100%, causing service quality to be affected.

To meet the increasing demand for using internet-connected devices, ensuring the safe and sustainable development of Vietnam’s digital infrastructure, the Ministry of Information and Communications is developing and will soon issue a Strategy Vietnam international fiber optic cable development strategy/plan. A representative of the Department of Telecommunications (Ministry of Information and Communications) said that it is expected that by the end of 2026, three additional undersea fiber optic cable lines (named ADC, SJC2, ALC) will be put into use to enhance connectivity. internet from Vietnam to international. These cable lines will have Vietnamese telecommunications enterprises participating in investment. The goal is that by 2030, the number of undersea cable lines that Vietnamese telecommunications enterprises will invest in will be at least 6 more lines.
