The Election Commission of Pakistan rejected Imran Khan’s nomination papers

The spokesman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party said today, December 31 (Jadi 10), that the Election Commission of the country rejected the nomination documents of Imran Khan and his party leaders in the elections.

The spokesperson of this party, Ruf Hasan, said that this is part of an “agenda” that prevents 90 and 95 percent of the leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf from becoming candidates.

He said that the members of the party will never leave the field of politics and will condemn the elections.

A member of the Election Commission of Pakistan has said that Imran Khan’s candidacy has been rejected because the court has convicted him.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August and has some cases in court. However, the Tehreek-e-Insaf Party submitted the official documents of his candidacy to the Election Commission last week.

According to the constitution of Pakistan, a person convicted by the court cannot take part in the elections, nor can he lead his party or any government office.

Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in prison in a corruption case.

Hassan Askar, a political analyst, said that such an action against a political party in Pakistan is “unprecedented”.

He said: “This is the first time in the history of this country that a political party is deprived of elections on such a large scale and before the elections.”

The Election Commission of Pakistan is scheduled to release the final list of candidates on January 23, 2024.
