The Golden Globe Awards are on the brink of extinction.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held on January 10th (local time). The event was still held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and I was already overcome with emotion as I walked past security and onto the red carpet (actually, this time it was a gray carpet). To be honest, I didn’t think I’d make it to this day safely.

As some of you may know, last year’s Golden Globe Awards were not televised. The media has extensively reported that the Hollywood Foreign Press Club, which hosts the Golden Globe Awards, has no black members, and as a result, NBC, which owns the broadcasting rights, has decided to cancel the broadcast of the awards ceremony in 2022.
That was May 2021. Tom Cruise also returned the three trophies he had received in the past in protest. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association had become a sore spot in the industry, and everyone was trying to distance themselves from it.
I will not go into detail here about the various reforms that the Hollywood Foreign Press Club has undertaken since then. Even if it is written by the person
involved, it lacks objectivity, and someone with malicious intent can criticize it as much as they want. However, for a year and a half, combined with the gloomy mood brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, I was prepared for the Golden Globe Awards to disappear.

That’s why tears welled up in my eyes as I watched the red carpet packed with celebrities. The Golden Globe Awards were still needed in the entertainment industry.
