On the 30th, TOKIO’s Masahiro Matsuoka (47) and actor Tetsuhiro Ikeda (53) attended a preview screening event for the WOWOW drama “The Secret Report Sings 2: Metropolitan Police Department Inspection Files” (starting August 11th, every Sunday at 10:00pm) held in Tokyo.

The second season will be based on two sequel novels by Ikane Gentaro, “Blacklist: Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Inspection Files” and “Reverberation: Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Inspection Files.” It will be produced as an entertainment piece on a larger scale than the previous series (August 2021).

The story begins with a tip-off letter received by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Personnel Division 1 (Jinichi). In order to solve the suspicion of information leaks from the Investigation Division 2, which is responsible for special fraud investigations, the members of Jinichi, including Sara Masaki (played by Matsuoka), Noma (Nakamura Toru), Minaguchi (Izumi Rika), Suga (Ikeda Tetsuhiro), Mouri (Hamanaka Bunichi), and Haranishi (Makita Sports), who were all shrouded in mystery in the trailer, join forces to solve the suspicions. In addition, the truth behind the death of Sara’s junior detective Saito (Totsuka Shota) also becomes a focus of attention.

Matsuoka honestly confessed his thoughts about the sequel decision, saying, “To be honest, I thought it was tough.” He continued, “They pretty much ruined the first one, so I was worried about repeating the same pattern. I was half happy that everyone recognized it, but also worried about whether I could do it.”

Ikeda and Matsuoka said they were nervous during the filming of season 1. However, Ikeda said, “By the time of season 2, I had met Matsuoka from ‘Mitazono the Housekeeper’ (2023)” and they had become closer. “I had seen Matsuoka in ‘Mitazono’ and we were talking right up until the time we started filming. Then the director pointed it out to me,” he said, giving him some guidance. Matsuoka retorted, “Of course!”, but Ikeda pouted and said, “It’s all Matsuoka’s fault.”

On the other hand, Matsuoka was dissatisfied, saying, “It was an accident that happened to me.” Ikeda reflected, “This time, we had to work on making the friendship between the characters more serious.”

Nakamura, Izumi, Ikeda, and director Uchikata Teru also attended the press conference.
