Electric-vehicle maker Tesla Inc’s Shanghai factory saw shipments of vehicles rise for a second straight month, helped by a doubling of government subsidies to encourage consumers to trade in their old cars for EVs.

Tesla shipped a total of about 86,697 Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs in August, according to provisional data released on Tuesday by China’s National Passenger Vehicle Market Information Association, up about 3% from a year earlier and suggesting the plant is regaining momentum after a slowdown in the first half of the year.

The government doubled rebates for eligible models to 20,000 yuan ($3,800) at the end of July. Entry-level electric cars and plug-in hybrids in particular benefited from the higher rebates, Car Alliance said in a WeChat post.

According to the Japan Automobile Federation, the number of EV and hybrid vehicle sales (wholesale basis) by automakers in August was approximately 1.05 million units, up approximately 32% from the previous year.
