Teachers are not only teachers, but also companions on the students’ life journey, exploring the unique potential of students and letting them spread their wings to pursue their dreams. Some teachers organized an e-sports club against all odds to encourage students to develop their strengths and pursue their e-sports dreams. Some teachers firmly believe that everyone has their own highlights. Some SEN (special educational needs) students were inspired and became interested in machines. The masterpieces they invented were even patented. Some teachers helped rebellious students find their goals, helped them build confidence, and finally got admitted to HKU.
Ta Kung Pao and the education sector jointly organized the first “Hong Kong Outstanding Teachers’ Morality Award Selection” event, and 20 teachers in Hong Kong won the Outstanding Award in the selection. Ta Kung Pao launched a series of reports called “Good Teachers’ Stories”, detailing their touching deeds behind their words and deeds and gentle and gentle rain. / Ta Kung Pao reporters Tang Jiaping, Yu Feng, Gu Zhuoxun, intern reporter Wang Zeyan (text), Cai Wenhao, Lin Shaoquan (photo), Zhang Kaiwen, Xu Zhaojie (video)

Teacher Chen Jinming is not only a companion to his students, but also an educator who dares to innovate and try. Together with his students, he founded the first e-sports club in Hong Kong composed of secondary school students. Teacher Chen Jinming has always been committed to growing with his students. He believes that every student has unique potential and dreams, and his mission is to work hand in hand with them to help them realize their dreams.
Students who participate in the organization and management of the event will gain more skills
Looking back, when he was invited by his classmates to set up an e-sports club, he was surrounded by all kinds of criticisms, such as “Teachers actually take the lead in playing games with students.” “This is simply not doing one’s job properly.” But he knew in his heart that “chasing dreams” was what he had always encouraged his classmates to do. Now his classmates are deeply influenced by his attitude and values of chasing dreams. They also want to chase their e-sports dreams and firmly choose him as a consultant teacher. He should also fully support his classmates. “We used a summer vacation to write a very long report to apply to the school to establish an e-sports club. We are very grateful that the school approved our application.”
In fact, during the operation of the e-sports club, Teacher Chen has always encouraged students to actively participate in the planning and management of activities, giving them the opportunity to learn more practical skills and knowledge. The e-sports club has co-organized activities such as the “JPC e-sports fun day” with the Junior Police Call. “Students have to think about how to promote a large-scale event in Hong Kong, how to find people to sign up, how to negotiate cooperation with organizations, how to live broadcast the game, and how to comment on the game.” Most importantly, these students who have failed and have poor academic performance in the e-sports club have discovered their own abilities. They understand that success is not just about getting good grades in school, but also about realizing their dreams by pursuing what they love. They gradually abandoned their own limitations and negative self-evaluations, began to believe in their abilities, and continued to strive for excellence.
Teacher Chen has always kept in mind what his predecessors told him. Their predecessors said, “As educators, our students are not necessarily perfect. Sometimes they will perform well and sometimes they will not. However, we must understand that these students are gifts from God.” Teacher Chen has always interpreted this sentence with his actions. With his selfless love and companionship, he has become a role model in the minds of his students.
Although more than a decade has passed, Teacher Chen still remembers the graduation ceremony of the first batch of students he taught. On that day, Teacher Chen carried the school bags of more than 30 students in the class and ran a lap with them on the school playground. His arms, feet, and waist were all hung with school bags, and he could not even see the runway in front of him. More than 30 students accompanied him and moved step by step with difficulty. The scene was unforgettable. For the students who had accompanied him for a year and were about to leave, Teacher Chen used this special and creative way of expression to let the students feel the teacher’s love for them. Many years later, some students have become parents, but they still remember the interesting scene of Teacher Chen running with them on the playground with school bags on their backs.
Always pay attention to growth and tap students’ potential
In her many years of teaching career, Teacher Chen has always believed that no matter how students perform, we should go all out to teach them and help them discover their value and potential. As long as we persevere, I believe we will be able to have a profound impact on students. As educators, we should always pay attention to the growth of students, love them and walk with them. Only in this way can we achieve a true model of teacher ethics on the road of education.
