(Bloomberg):Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Kuo Chih-hui, responded to former US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s criticism of Taiwan over semiconductors by denying that Taiwan has ever taken over the semiconductor industry from the US.
“It goes without saying that Taiwan has not stolen its semiconductor industry from the United States,” Guo told reporters in Taipei on the 2nd. “The semiconductors we manufacture are outsourced by U.S. companies.” He added, “Trump may have some misunderstandings about these matters. We will clarify them.”
In a July interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Trump criticized Taiwan’s semiconductor sector, saying the country “took our semiconductor business away from us.”
