“Heisei Kojirase Room” is filled with the “emotions” of people in their 30s
Heisei Kojirase Heya-san has been a hot topic on social media for his large collection of “Heisei goods” at home. His other identity is Barashiya Toshiya, a popular web manga artist with over 120,000 followers on Instagram (as of June 2024).
He currently lives in a 2LDK apartment in Kanagawa Prefecture with his wife and pet cat, and usually works from home. When we visited his house and opened the front door, we found a simple and sophisticated living room decorated with white furniture.
“The living room is in the Reiwa era, just like any other house. Here is the Heisei room.”
As I was guided there, the room I stepped into was filled with a large amount of Heisei goods. In his house, the two rooms other than the living room are “Heisei rooms.”
The first place we were shown was the “work room/otaku room,” which has also been featured on YouTube.
–––––Amazing number of Heisei era goods! It’s like we’ve traveled back in time to the Heisei era.
Heisei Kojirase Room (hereinafter, the same)I usually spend my time here working, watching movies, playing games, etc. Most of the things in this room were released before 2006.

–––––Why only things up to 2006?
I lived in my hometown until 2006. I lived in Ehime Prefecture until high school, and then moved to Kanagawa Prefecture in 2007 when I went to university.
–––––Does this room ever remind you of your time living in Ehime?
Yes, there is. I like to reminisce… I look at things I had back then, listen to 2000s J-POP such as Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, and Morning Musume, and anime songs from that time, and reminisce about the past.
There were some unpleasant things at the time, but when I feel nostalgic about it, it’s not so painful anymore.

–––––Being born in 1988, Heisei Kojirase Beya’s youth was right in the middle of the Heisei era.
That’s right. I was born just before the Showa era, but the era name changed from Showa to Heisei about three months after I was born. There were still quite a few Showa items left in the early Heisei era, so I made it a rule that “it’s okay to collect anything that you saw at the time.”
–––––Why do you set the rules?
If I don’t make rules, I’ll just keep collecting them (laughs). Also, sometimes I suddenly want something from the Showa era. Also, sometimes people say to me, “You say this is a room for the complicated Heisei era, but you still have things from the Showa era, don’t you?” That’s why I made the rules to have an excuse for those times.
Even if it’s something from the Showa era, I’m okay with it as long as it’s something I wanted at the time.

–––––How do you get your hands on Heisei merchandise?
I often get them from various auction sites such as Mercari and Yahoo! Auctions. Recently, I’ve also been receiving them from people who watch my YouTube channel.
I also often buy things at Hard Off. In fact, I’m also an official ambassador for Hard Off.
