Study: consumer restraint despite improved financial situation

Referreport

Two out of three respondents rate their financial situation as “at least good”. Nevertheless, a clear majority would rather save money. And above all mentions two areas where she wants to spend less money.

Consumers in Germany are holding back on consumption despite growing financial confidence. This is the result of a representative study by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of TeamBank AG.

According to this, 70 percent of those surveyed stated that they had planned to reduce their planned expenses or even forego them entirely because of high prices. In a survey in February of this year it was three percentage points less. The most savings are made on restaurant visits and vacation trips. 32 percent and 20 percent of those surveyed named these areas.

However, according to the survey, individual financial possibilities are now assessed somewhat more optimistically: 67 percent of those surveyed rate their financial situation as “at least good”. That is four percentage points more than in February. This increase is even more pronounced in the 18 to 29 year old age group. At the beginning of the year there were 13 percentage points fewer who rated their financial situation positively. Currently it is 74 percent.

For the study, the opinion research institute YouGov surveyed 3,160 people between the ages of 18 and 79 online about their liquidity and consumer behavior from June to July of this year.
