London ∙ In his maiden speech in the British Parliament, Sojan Joseph said that he was happy that he could represent a constituency like Ashford in Parliament as an immigrant from Kerala. Sojan Joseph, the first Malayali elected to the British Parliament, also brought the problems of the farmers to the attention of the people’s representatives. Sojan brought to the attention of Parliament the labor shortage and rising energy costs faced by farmers in rural areas of the Ashford constituency. He also shared the hope that the work of the Great British Energy Company, which is to be started by the new government, will solve this problem in the future.
Tourism, train stations, GP surgeries, dentists, housing, roads and schools will all be pushed for development in and out of Parliament. Sojan said he was proud to represent the Labor Party in Parliament for the first time in Ashford’s 136-year political history. The people of Ashford are waiting for a big change and all his actions will be for that. Sojan presented in Parliament, sharing his experience of paying £93 for a first journey as an MP, including the exorbitant train ticket prices to get from Ashford to London.
Sojan’s first speech was about sharing his development dreams and thanking voters, party workers, family members and his predecessors. Pointing out the number of patients and the lack of staff at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Sojan stated in his speech that this will be his top priority in the context of 22 years of NHS nursing experience. Former MP for Ashford and senior Tory leader Damien Green thanked him for his services to the constituency and his development contributions.
Public sector organizations, especially the NHS, should consider the problems facing them very seriously, and as a mental health nurse, the problems facing the NHS are directly experienced by me. Sojan added that the NHS should be able to meet the needs of the people by addressing the lack of funding and staffing. Sojan spoke in Parliament for seven and a half minutes.
