CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Passes Away : The family of Communist Party of India senior leader Sitaram Yechury took a big decision today. After the death of Sitaram Yechury, his body has been donated to the All India Institute of Sciences in New Delhi for study and research. Yechury passed away today at the age of 72 at 3:50 PM due to severe respiratory infection.
The CPI(M) general secretary was undergoing treatment at AIIMS since August 19. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital due to pneumonia. Day by day his condition was getting worse. But, he died during the treatment.
AIIMS Hospital issued a medical bulletin in this regard. It was written that Sitaram Yechury was admitted to the hospital on August 19 due to pneumonia. However, he died on September 12 at 3.05 pm. His family has donated his body to AIIMS for teaching and research.

Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has condoled the demise of Sitaram Yechury. “Sitaram Yechury was my good friend. He had a deep understanding of his country. He was a staunch supporter of the idea of India. I will always remember the long discussions we had. My best wishes are with his family, relatives, friends and workers on this difficult occasion”, Rahul Gandhi posted on X account.
Political career of Sitaram Yechury
Sitaram Yechury was one of the important leaders of the leftist movement of India. Under his leadership many movements were held for the rights of the deprived, workers and backward classes. Even as a CPI(M) leader and MP, he had asked the central government to answer many important issues in Parliament.
Sitaram Yechury joined the Students Federation of India or SFI in 1974. Within a year, he also became a member of the Marxist Communist Party. In 1975, while in JNU, he was arrested during Emergency. He was also elected as the President of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union in 1977-78. Along with Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury is believed to have led the leftist movement in JNU during that time.
In 1984, Sitaram Yechury became a member of the Central Committee of the CPI(M). He joined the Politburo. In 2015, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the Marxist Communist Party. In the meantime, he worked as an MP in the Rajya Sabha for almost 12 years. During this period, he made a clear stand regarding the rights of workers, backward classes and middle class.
