Singer Sono Mari (real name Sonobe Mariko), known for her hit song “Aitakute Aitakute,” passed away at 5:43 a.m. on July 26th at a hospital in Tokyo due to acute heart failure. She was 80 years old. She was from Yokohama. Her funeral and farewell ceremony were held among close relatives.
She debuted in 1962. She appeared on television with Mie Nakao and Yukari Ito as part of the “Three Girls” and gained popularity. In 1964, she had hits with “Nanimo Iiwanade” and “Aitakute-“, written by Tokiko Iwatani and composed by Tai Miyagawa. Her other major hits include “Yume wa Yoru Hiraku” and “Aitakute-“. “Aitakute-” was made into a movie of the same name, in which she starred.
He appeared on the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen in 1938 and 1939 as a trio with Nakao and others, and as a solo performer from 1940 to 1943. He was also popular in TV dramas, stage plays and variety shows.
