Beirut: Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naeem Qasim is the new head of Hezbollah. Hezbollah has elected a new leader a month after Hasan Nasrullah was killed in an Israeli attack. After the assassination of Nasrullah, Qasim responded for Hezbollah.
His statement was that despite the painful loss, the fight against Israel will continue. Qasim also supported the ceasefire in Lebanon. However, his proposal came with the condition that it should not affect the ceasefire in Gaza.
Qasim has been Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General since 1991. Qasim is the public face of the organization. He appeared and responded in all the rallies and interviews. Born in southern Lebanon, Qassim was part of the Lebanese Shia Amal group before becoming a founding member of Hezbollah.
Hassan Nasrullah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Dahiya, south of the Lebanese capital Beirut. Hezbollah had announced that it would retaliate strongly on the death of 64-year-old Nasrullah.
