Being the mother of a bodybuilding family is not easy!
–You come from a bodybuilding family where everyone in your family trains, but who was the first one to start training?
Miyata Miyuki (hereinafter the same)I’m the eldest son. I played soccer until college, but I got injured and started weight training for rehabilitation. I got hooked on weight training and started aiming to compete in muscle beauty competitions.

To compete with my eldest son, my husband, who had been doing weight training for a long time, was also inspired and began participating in competitions, saying, “I can’t lose to my son.” We were in the same weight class, so it was a real father-son showdown. Then I. My second son was the last to start, inspired by the fact that everyone in the family was winning competitions.
At home, I’m half naked
–It seems that you hated bodybuilding to begin with, Miyuki.
That’s right. A lot of troublesome things happened in our household. First of all, my eldest son’s food preferences were very thin. He started restricting his diet to lose weight, but if I made a slight mistake in the grams of chicken, he would get really angry. We would get into fights, and I thought I was done with this kind of competition.
Also, my eldest son and my husband are always half-naked at home. Every time they make eye contact, he asks, “Mom, whose muscles do you like better?” There’s always a lot of tension between my eldest son and my husband at home. In the end, my eldest son didn’t get along with my husband and left home to live alone, but I think our family would have fallen apart if we had continued living together (laughs).
–But it seems that Miyuki has also become addicted to weight training…
When I went to cheer my eldest son on at a competition, I learned that there was a women’s competition called Physique, a category that evaluates the balance of muscles throughout the body.
In this program, there is a part called “Free Pose” where you pose freely for about a minute to your favorite music, and I was moved by the graceful movements and beautiful poses of the athletes. Rather than building up muscle mass, I thought, “I want to try this performance myself!” That’s why I still don’t like muscle training very much (laughs).
