The police revealed that four farmers in Pasir Sedang Village, Picung District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten, were reportedly killed by lightning. The victims were killed by lightning while taking shelter in a rice field.
Picung Police Chief Inspector Arry Zumono said the incident occurred at around 14.30 WIB this afternoon. According to Arry, initially the four victims were taking shelter in a hut with 10 other farmers.
Arry said the 14 farmers were harvesting rice in the rice fields before taking shelter because of the rain. Then while taking shelter, suddenly lightning struck the hut used for shelter.
“Again, in the rice harvest fields, 14 people were taking shelter, suddenly lightning struck the hut and killed four people,” Arry told reporters, Monday (30/9/2024).
Apart from the four victims who died, there was one farmer who was injured as a result of the incident. Meanwhile, nine other farmers were declared safe.
“Then there was one other person who was injured, (the others) survived,” he said.
Arry said the injured farmers immediately received treatment at the Community Health Center. Meanwhile, the four farmers who died have been buried.
“Those who died have been buried, the injured have been treated at home,” he concluded.
