Interview Part 1 >>
Screams, fistfights… “It was a daily occurrence.”
“A life of blood, gunpowder, and gunpowder. I debuted as a delinquent, then played gangsters and yakuza roles, and never reformed. It’s an outlaw actor’s life. But I like it. It’s good, and I never get tired of it.”
When I was a boy, I admired the comedy king Charles Chaplin.
“I’ve seen all of Chaplin’s movies and read most of his autobiographies and letters. Chaplin risked his life for laughs back then, and now I’m doing action scenes without stunts. .
When I feel like I’m about to freak out, I think of Chaplin and say, “What are you going to do about that?” ”

In 1983, at the age of 21, he made his debut as a criminal in the drama “Taiyo ni Hoero”. There is an anecdote that he suddenly punched the director.
“That’s more than just me, it was because that was the era. Filming was stopped because the director and the lead got into a fistfight, or the assistant director would hit the actors, and that was a daily occurrence. There was nothing but yelling, it was a construction site. (laughs) I was thinking about what I should do to avoid being criticized.”
He rose to prominence after appearing in hit films such as the drama “School Wars” in 1984 and the movie “Be Bop High School” in 1985. Was there anyone at the time who taught you what it takes to be an actor?
“No, it wasn’t like that back then. All of my seniors were bad guys, so if you drank alcohol you’d get into fights.
For example, in the past, there was a group of Piranha actors (a group of actors led by star Tsunehiko Watase, including Takuzo Kawatani, Minoru Kobayashi, and Ryuji Katagiri). I asked Katagiri-san that Watase-san got into a fight with a yakuza in Shinjuku, and the piranha army rushed in.
So the yakuza said, “Hey, where does this come from? ‘ It’s Toei, Korra! It seems like they fought each other while saying, ‘(lol). It was during that time that great movies like “Battle Without Honor” were born.
Would you like to make a yakuza movie now? When I was the boss and was riding in the back of a luxury car, people would say, “Please put your seatbelt on.” Isn’t it strange that anti-social people follow traffic rules? ”
