Numerous myths surround Franconian places and sights. These gruesome legends also come from Franconia.

No matter whether in Upper, Lower or Middle Franconia, there are legends and myths in every corner of Franconia. As numerous as the mythical stories are, the topics they cover are just as varied. Also scary stories is from Franconia.

Some of these scary stories were discussed by Sandra, Julia and Florian in the podcast “Experience Franconia”. Sometimes there are the stories of the… resurrected woman from Schweinfurt, the Cave poppies from Pottenstein and the Ansbacher werewolf.

Scary myths in the podcast: stories from all over Franconia

  • The resurrected woman from Schweinfurt: In the 16th century became the wife of a Schweinfurt town clerk due to tetanus believed to be dead. After her funeral, she rose from her grave and returned to her husband as a “walking corpse.” Shortly afterwards she died along with her child Gravestone at the old cemetery still remembered.
  • The Pottenstein cave populace: Instead of sitting in church on Sunday, several boys played in one Forest near Pottenstein – that was fatal for one of them. While playing, they discovered one injured rabbits and chased him to a cave. Only one of the boys dared to enter the cave, whereupon he began to scream terribly. The other children quickly fetched their parents. They found the boy mangled in the cave. The rabbit was actually a Cave poppieswho lured the boy into the cave by turning into a rabbit. Since then the cave has been called “Hasenloch”.
  • The Ansbach werewolf: In the 17th century A wolf wreaked havoc in Ansbach and killed several people. The citizens of Ansbach were firmly convinced that the wolf was the previous one fraudulent mayor Michael Leicht acted. After the wolf fell into a well and died, the townspeople dressed him up and hung him up. Since then, the Ansbachers have also been Wolf Executioner known.
