Pakistan has been in the news for several days after the news of cancellation of passports of beggars of the country. Now lakhs of rupees have been found from a beggar here. The rescue team found an old beggar in an unconscious state on Khushab Road in Sargodha district of Punjab. On searching, 5 lakh Pakistani rupees i.e. about one and a half lakh rupees were found in his pocket. Apart from Pakistani rupees, his passport was also recovered from him. It was revealed that he has also traveled to Saudi Arabia several times. After being discharged from the hospital, his things were returned to him.
According to a report in the Times of India, people in the area told rescue teams that the man regularly begged in the same area. In September last year, concerns were raised over Pakistanis taking advantage of Umrah visas to beg in the country.
Meanwhile, in a meeting of a standing committee in Pakistan, the secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates said that 90% of the beggars detained abroad were Pakistanis. He told the Senate committee, “Iraqi and Saudi ambassadors have reported that their jails are filling up due to these arrests. Most of the pickpockets caught inside the Masjid al-Haram in Saudi Arabia were of Pakistani origin and had taken advantage of Umrah visa to beg.”
Taking major action on this matter last month, the Pakistan government had decided to suspend the passports of more than 2 thousand beggars. A report was also prepared on this, which said that many beggars of the country beg in countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran on the pretext of Umrah, which damages the image of the country.
